Past Deputy Fire Chief / Life Member Wayne Van Tassel Passes Away

By Assistant Chief Nathan Hedrick
October 9, 2016

It's a very sad time for the Baden Volunteer Fire Department as we have lost one of our own, Wayne VanTassel. Wayne was born on October 9, 1951 and joined our department as a firefighter in 1968. He made his way through our ranks and became Deputy Fire Chief in 1982. He held this position until 1985. Wayne later stepped down as an operational member but continued to volunteer his time on the Banquet Hall Set-up Committee and Board of Directors. Wayne was inducted into the Prince George's County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association's Hall of Fame on September 10, 2014. We are grateful for Wayne's dedication to our department and his community during his 48 years of service. Sadly, Wayne passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016. He will be missed dearly by our department and we would like to express our deepest condolences to his wife, Phyllis, their two children, Lisa and Andrew, and the rest of his family.
